International Youth Forum Go4BioDiv
Young people will have to bear the consequences of today's actions and decisions – therefore their points of view should play an important role in political discussions and decision-making.
The International Youth Forum Go4BioDiv gives young adults between 18 and 27 the possibility to engage in the UN Conferences on Biodiversity (CBD-COP). Initiated by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and the German Bavarian Forest National Park, Go4BioDiv has been carried out so far in 2008, 2010 and 2012, parallel to the Conferences of the Parties in Germany, Japan and India. Young messengers from five continents send a wake-up-call to the world community for conserving biological and the often associated cultural diversity.
The Youth Forum Go4BioDiv offers representatives of the young generation the opportunity to exchange views and to participate in international decision-making processes. It provides the necessary media and political attention for the issues biological and cultural diversity as well as intergenerational responsibility.
„Unity in Diversity – My Environment and Me“ was the theme of the first Youth Forum in Germany. The participants got to know the concept of the Ecological Footprint and used it for spreading their message about biodiversity conservation. The second Forum in Japan united young adults from World Heritage sites in 23 countries under the topic „Our Treasures at Risk – World Heritage in Times of Climate Change”. 2012 focus was on marine and coastal issues: Conserving coastal and marine biodiversity for sustaining life and livelihoods.
